More than 53 000 foreigners deported or repatriated in clampdown on illegal migration
With 80% Malawian and the rest from mainly neighbouring countries such as Zimbabwe and Mozambique. The clampdown has helped identify numerous criminals.
The South African government has processed more than 53 449 foreign nationals for deportation or voluntary repatriation in less than a month as part of a clampdown on illegal migration.
This is part of President Cyril Ramaphosa’s five-point migration plan, announced on 7 June, which aims to tighten immigration enforcement, secure SA’s borders, reform migration laws, and strengthen border management.
