SA turns to private capital to unlock R2trn infrastructure pipeline

Projects valued at R1.2trn are stuck in feasibility stage and need funding – here’s how government hopes to solve this.
There is no shortage of infrastructure projects on the books; the problem is getting them to development stage.
Infrastructure South Africa (ISA), the government agency responsible for coordinating the country’s R2 trillion infrastructure programme, says 263 Strategic Integrated Projects with a combined value of R1.99 trillion have been identified, but more than half remain on the drawing board waiting to get past the feasibility stage.
