Widow of George building collapse victim may have to wait until 2027 for justice

Sylvia Magxwalisa, whose husband was killed in the 2024 collapse of a partially constructed apartment block in George, has gone to court to hold the regulator responsible. The regulator wants her case set aside.
The widow of a construction worker killed in one of the worst construction accidents in South African history may have to wait until 2027 before she gets a chance to argue the merits of her case against the National Home Builders Registration Council (NHBRC).
Sylvia Magxwalisa lost her husband Andile Magxwalisa when the partially completed Neo Victoria apartment block at 12 Victoria Street in George, around 60km from Knysna in the Western Cape, collapsed on 6 May 2024.
